Oftentimes, a patient is referred to us and the dentist will tell us, “This tooth is hopeless.” So, at that point in time, we’re usually pretty sure the dentist is correct, but we’ll take the necessary radiographs or X-rays that we need to if they haven’t given them to us. Oftentimes, where there’s one issue, there might be another. It doesn’t mean you have to do anything, but we want to let you know about it. I always tell people, “We don’t want you to leave here and not know everything that’s going on in your mouth. They’re your teeth. You get to decide what you do.”
But once we determine that, that, yes, this tooth does need to be removed, we’ll have the patient back, and we’ll remove the tooth. And we want to try and minimize your visits here because we know you got other things to do. It’s not the place you wanna have to spend all your time. So, if we can do the removal of the tooth and the placement of the implant at one time, that saved you at least three months of your life having to wait for this to happen. And so, we’re able to place that implant then with the appropriate procedure to do that. And then you heal, and you will go back to your dentist, and they’ll do the permanent crown for you, and you’ll be able to function.

Extract Your Tooth to Save Your Smile
Whether you come in for a dental emergency, gum disease treatment, or dental implants, we’ll restore the function and health of your smile. Dr. Crawford has over 25 years of experience as a periodontist and implant specialist. He has performed countless extractions and other surgical procedures. Before he moves forward with a tooth removal, he’ll try to save your tooth with his advanced periodontal treatments.
However, if he discovers a tooth extraction is the best decision for your oral health, he’ll take time to explain his reasoning. His goal is for you to understand the purpose behind your procedure and feel confident before we move forward. Our motto is “Inform Before We Perform.”
Our team goes the extra mile to ensure your dental extraction goes smoothly. We will:
- Use digital X-rays and advanced 3-D technology to plan your procedure.
- Numb your mouth so you don’t feel a thing
- Offer you sedation through laughing gas or oral sedation if you are nervous
- Work with you and your general dentist on tooth replacement options, including implants
In addition to sedation, our cozy amenities will help ease your anxiety. You can relax in a comfortable heated massage chair with a pillow and blanket. You can also block out the sights and sounds of our equipment with TVs and headphones.

Schedule Your Implant ConsultationWhile the idea of tooth removal may seem scary, the procedure itself is usually painless. Dr. Crawford will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic to ensure you don’t feel any pain during the extraction. Sedation options are available as well, including laughing gas or oral sedation. After the procedure, you may feel some discomfort. But we’ll give you aftercare instructions to encourage the healing process and reduce any pain.
If possible, your dentist will always try to save your natural tooth. However, in some cases, tooth extraction may be the best option for your overall oral health. In addition, extractions are often needed to prepare your mouth for dental implants. Your dentist will discuss all possible alternatives with you and recommend the best course of treatment based on your individual needs.
Your recovery time will typically last around seven to 10 days. However, the duration of your recovery will be influenced by how closely you follow the aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Crawford. Following these guidelines, such as avoiding hard or chewy foods and strenuous exercise, will help speed up your recovery.
